Focus
A focus on the user in IT change projects is an absolute must for each successful project. A project is only successful when it realizes its intended business benefits, which can only be the case when the intended changes get fully integrated in the organization.
Change can be achieved through compliance or commitment. It never happens automatically. It requires a structured approach: the Inia change management approach!
Successful Change Management
Change management is a support work stream dedicated to all the people-aspects in a change project. It is a methodology and a number of mechanisms that makes the changes - prepared by a project team - real, by making people fit in the new environment and making them willing and able to function in the new environment.
Key components in a successful change management approach are:
- Communication
Communication is one of the key success factors for a project.
- The key message for a successful change has to:
State clearly and to the point on the goal of the project
Be explicit on the benefits for the customer
Clearly explain the advantages for the users
- Leadership and Vision
The willingness of the management to change is crucial. People will more likely be willing to change if their management tells them he/she thinks it is important and acts as a role model. One person nor the project team alone can't reach all those impacted. Therefore change leadership needs to exist at different levels, i.e. people willing to act as an ambassador and a role model.
- Training and Knowledge transfer
Training the users is the most crucial element when introducing a new (version of a) software solution in an working environment. Change causes resistance which can be geared to enthusiasm and success through involvement and training.
